Planet Lab is a fun, gamified STEM learning network that helps the next generation of scientists learn about the Earth’s air, water, energy and food systems. The network provides a platform for crowd-sourcing and curating the best in science educational content and hands-on project-based learning. By connecting kids directly with leading science organizations and researchers, we help teachers and Classrooms work together to learn as they nurture the planet.
Link to the Sustainable Chicago 2015 Action Agenda:
A sustainable city needs a sustainable workforce, but sadly, only 20% of the nations 12th grade students demonstrate proficiency in science (c.f. Change the Equation). Chicago has amazing assets—we house some of the world’s leading research organizations, a great museum campus, and networks of hands-on environmental leaders. Planet Lab creates a way for these scientists to connect directly with schools and families, sharing STEM content linked to problems in environmental stewardship and community health. The curriculum provides an engaging, hands-on map of the STEM fields, fostering “cradle to career” pathways that help Chicago youth innovate and lead in the technology economy. .
Other competitions/recognitions/media coverage for this project:
